[Hongdae guesthouse] KBS 아침뉴스타임 (morning news)

TIME guesthouse is going to be introduced in KBS news "아침뉴스타임" on next Tuesday.
Please stay tune! 12 Mar on KBS 2TV, 08:30 in the morning.

Hongdae Club Day

The area surrounding Hongik University, or 'Hongdae' (홍대) as it's affectionately called, is the center of Korea's youthful nightlife. Many of Seoul's idiosyncratic clubs that draw the younger set are clustered in the area, and on the last Friday of every month these clubs host a 'Club Day.' The Hongdae Club Day was first started in 2001 as a way to promote the club business, and has since become a staple as a festival of youth. A 15,000 won ticket gains party-goers admittance into 11 clubs, with one drink on the house. It is an ideal place for people who find dancing and music irresistible. Head over to Hongdae Club Day on the last Friday of the month. A wild gathering of young adults from all over the world is waiting.

Dos Tacos in Hongdae

Dos Tacos

Many foreigners who come to Korea usually expect very little when they stop into a Mexican food restaurant in Seoul. This is by way any fault of Korea's, it is simply just that many Koreans who have never left the country may not know the taste of authentic Mexican food, and therefore cannot cook it to the same level as something you might find in Mexico or the Southern parts of America. However, with this said, Dos Tacos in Hongdae is by far one of the most superior Mexican restaurants in Seoul. While the taste is not quite the same, it is close enough that many foreigners who are homesick for Mexican food, especially those from Southern California, will be able to appreciate the healthier and delicious version of Mexican food that Dos Tacos has to offer.

They have many of the common Mexican food items to choose from, such as burritos, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, tostadas, and more.

Veggie Nachos

Shrimp and Vegetable Burrito

Veggie Hard Shell Taco and Chicken Soft Shell Taco

Veggie Burrito

All of the food is reasonably priced and well worth the visit. If you are in the neighborhood and craving for very hard to find Mexican food in Korea, Dos Tacos is the place to go.

Cafe Sakura in Hongdae

Cafe Sakura

Cafe Sakura is a stylish and vegan-friendly restaurant in Hongdae. Although they only have a small selection of food, four main dishes, a few appetizers, and two seasonal plates, the food itself is very delicious and healthy. There is a huge array of beverages ranging from coffee, tea, wine, beer, cocktails, etc. One can definitely tell how much the baristas like experimenting with drinks by the various styles and flavors Cafe Sakura offers.

Cute little bar where you can watch the baristas make coffee and drinks. Of course if you want to admire the action from afar, there are also many tables surrounding the bar to choose from.

There is a wide variety of books and magazines from different countries. I am not sure if the customers can actually read them or not, but it gives a nice articulate and classy vibe to the restaurant.

Chicken Curry and Vegan Mix Plate

After 6pm, there are only two dishes served in Cafe Sakura, fortunately both are very tasty. The Chicken Curry is more like a chili flavor than curry, but nonetheless, very delicious. It is served with purple grain rice and a chicken drumstick.

Vegan Mix Plate

For those who are vegan or health food lovers, this mix is both vegan-friendly and delicious. Everything is homemade and organic, from the vegetable soup, to the nut and fruit bread. Also, this was one of the first time ever seeing chick peas in Korea. Where they came from I have no idea, but I love it.

Red Wine Lemonade

Very refreshing wine that tastes very similar to sangria. In Korea good wine that is not $100 is hard to come by, so it is a rare find to have such a deliciously treat with dinner. :)

All in all, for a slightly pricey but relaxing night out, Cafe Sakura is highly recommended.

Hongdae Veggie Holic Cafe/Bakery

Veggie Holic

Next to Time Guesthouse there is a newly opened organic and vegan friendly cafe/bakery called, Veggie Holic. It houses an assortment of baked goods and drinks that are made from diary-free products. Although it may not sound delicious to those who are not used to this kind of diet, it is absolutely worth trying, at least once.

The lovely array of baked goods made fresh every morning.

You can either take your things to go or enjoy them upstairs with friends or by yourself in the comfortable and quite cafe area.

Some delicious purchases:

Green Tea Cookies

Almond Rice Muffin

Coconut Almond Flavored Ice Cream, made by coconut milk.

Green Bean Pastry

Although some of the items can be a little bit pricey at times, considering how much better they are for your body and digestive system, they are well worth the price.
